Good things come to those who wait, more often than not. In my previous entry, I mentioned how I was often going to Starbucks, not just to buy coffee, but because they had two consecutive holiday designs – for Valentines Day, and for Chinese New Year. I kept going back, and going back, and going back, always looking at the tumblers and the mugs, asking questions from the baristas, but never really making the purchase.
Last week, on a failed attempt to get something at the 7-11 by our building, and another failed attempt to get something at the 7-11 across from my frequented Starbucks branch, I happened upon my favorite coffee place. Initially, it was just supposed to be me dropping by and looking at what they have, especially since Starbucks Philippines had recently posted their new Spring collection on their facebook page.
In the end, I left the coffee shop with a paper bag with a Spring-Cherry Blossom mug, a stainless steel tumbler, a Mocha Frappucino inside the tumbler, and a conscience knowing I had just spent a somewhat large amount of money on Starbucks.
Still, I was momentarily quite happy for a number of reasons. One, was that I hadn’t treated myself to any Starbucks tumblers since 2013 – when I left Xiamen and had with me one Starbucks tumbler for myself, and another Starbucks tumbler for a friend. Two, because upon conversing with the barista, I found out that the Spring collection is a limited edition set. Once the few that are at the branches are gone, they will not be replenishing the stock. Three, Cherry Blossoms almost always mean JAPAN. And lastly, that opting not to buy anything from the Christmas collection, and V-day and Chinese New Year collection meant that I had saved money FOR THIS MOMENT IN TIME.
The way the world works nowadays, there’s always something new that’s out, and there’s always some regret when things come and go and you don’t get/buy what you wanted when it was available. But at the same time, learning that having felt that “regret” would lead me to this very shallow moment in time when I would actually be happy with this one splurge of a purchase, makes me just a tad bit happier.
Funny thing about this purchase was that the Starbucks barista was asking me if I was collecting Starbucks tumblers. I’d love to, but I just don’t have the funds nor the passion to do so. But once in a while, a design or an urge comes along that just pushes me to make that very uncommon purchase.
I’m a Starbucks fan with a long list of Starbucks lovers (aka things I’ve wanted but never actually ended up buying).
P.S. The Spring collection, according to the barista, will be available till (around) April 20th, or until supplies last.
