If there is one way I can sum up my 2015 in terms of literature, I would call it The Year of Ebooks. Looking back at the novels I’ve read this year – 20 (according to Goodreads), it is almost entirely made up of ebooks that have been emailed to me by friends over the last few months.
Me from a few years ago would in some sense be surprised, and maybe disappointed, or aghast. I think that I even made a blog post on why I would never choose ebooks over the real thing. Honestly speaking, my mindset is still the same – I would always, always, choose a physical copy over a digital one. What’s different now is that I’m more open-minded at how I look at ebooks.
The one thing that would probably make reading ebooks a bigger part of my 2015 is the frequency of which I was connected to my phone, which I partly owe to my line of work. Another is that this 2015 was the year that I shifted to an upgraded phone with a large screen, which of course made reading all the more easier. Then again, I read a lot of Percy Jackson books at the start of 2015, even before I upgraded phones. One point to note would probably be that the ebooks friends have sent over to me have been books that I for a few years had been interested in getting into but never did.
Of the ebooks I fnished in 2015, I read 8 Percy Jackson-related books, 4 Haruki Murakami books, 3 romance novels (though one didn’t count as it was a re-read), 2 Kevin Kwan Books, and 1 free ebook via goodreads.
This 2016, I’m looking forward to reading more books – whether physical or digital copies. Of course, I am hoping to tackle my ever growing to-read shelf, especially the books I have copies of at home. The bookworm’s ever-growing dilemma being of course that i have no more space or time for books, yet I keep buying more at the bookstore.
Here’s hoping that this 2016, I find and make the time to read more books.
