– Yes, we’ll still have the same staff in this event, as well as new trainees.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to give updates on this soon!
I’ve always been an avid fan of interior design and architecture. It could be because I have uncles who are engineers and architects, and we really make a living out of designing stuff like houses and buildings. Or maybe, it’s just really me. In fact, on tumblr, I follow a few blogs that showcase different pictures of room layouts and the like, as contributed by people from around the world of course.
It fascinates me, all these different themes and designs and ideas. So last June 23, when fellow blogger Fran Haw-Ang invited us to the launching of Real Living magazine’s Real Home Ideas5: Small Space Solutions, I was beyond thrilled. You see, our home is like a mini-dump (to some extent). It’s not messy-messy, but it could be cleaner if you know what I mean. My family, we’re a bunch of pack rats, we find it really difficult to throw away things, which leads to clutter of old things around the house that don’t really get used but take up loads of space. Also, my “moving” to Beijing for my studies means that I’ll live in a dorm or an apartment which is smaller than what I’m used to, so knowing how to layout and organize my belongings will be a big plus.
Back to the event.
The launching of the event included displays of 3 different room situations, making use of small spaces for productive layout-ing. The idea of the book launch was how to make the most out of small spaces, especially for people who live in apartments and condominiums and don’t have much space to work with. With over 200 pictures and over 100 decor ideas, the magazine gave tips to readers about how to arrange their living spaces. As the press release states:
“The book is divided into three parts. The first chapter deals with different kinds of small homes and allows the reader to identify which type is most identical to the one he or she owns. The second chapter is all about small space tricks, which gives storage and furniture layout ideas. The third and last chapter gives tips on how a homeowner can go about renovating a small space and what to remember before retouching a small space home.”

With various themes and ideas in the book, readers can be inspired to re-design their own living spaces, whether or not they live in small or big spaces. During the event, the various interior designers who presented their ideas for various living spaces also answered some questions regarding personal living space issues.
At the event, 3 different designers presented their own small design concepts. The first was a living room concept with an Asian feel. A combination of various Asian pieces. The next was a dining room concept with simple colors that give the space a somewhat distinguished feel. It’s amazing how the simple pieces make the space look so classic. Lastly, the last space which was for the bedroom, allowed attendees to see how a bed can be made from just about anything. In order to allow room for more creativity, the designer didn’t use a frame but used a mirror instead, which is creative since mirrors allow for rooms to look much larger than they actually are. Also, large pillows made the bed look some like posh bachelorette’s pad. [See pictures below]

Overall, it was definitely a wonderful event. As I browsed through the magazine, I was able to catch sight of some things I might want to look for at SM HomeWorld, since the event was sponsored by SM HomeWorld. I never knew they had such items. Time to consider getting some of those things and replacing some stuff at home. For when I come back from Beijing of course. Who knows how soon or how far away that is.
Imagine living within a protected wall. Unable to see the world outside except for tales of warriors who have gone outside in search for materials for the village, or those who have gone for the adult rites (if they had returned).
A girl, probably in her late teens or early adult years, is the daughter of the chieftain in the village. She has been raised to become the wife of the next leader, sheltered from harm and danger. The interesting thing about her, is that her looks are deceiving. Though she looks very much like a lady, you could call her a tomboy of sorts. She is aggressive, stubborn, and quick to anger, always causing mayhem within the village as she challenges the men to battle with her. Each day as she finishes her lessons, she watches boys and men training in the distance, preparing for the time when they must go outside in order to complete the rite of passage into adulthood, or for a time for battle.
In that small community, girls are better off as druids or wardens, protecting themselves within their village and in charge of passing to the younger ones the knowledges they have obtained in their research. But she, stubborn as she is, refuses to keep to the rules. In secret, she trains herself everyday by building up her stamina and strength. In a hidden training ground past the deserted ruins, she has learned to carry and strike with a sword (a weapon forbidden to women in the village, and used only by their strongest of men).
One day, she inexplicably finds herself training long into the night, absorbed in her swordsmanship. Exhausted but feeling a lot stronger than when she started, she finds her village ravaged by a great fire, her friends and family either missing or dead. Desperate to find the ones who destroyed her home, she sets out into the world to seek the truth. Who destroyed her village, and why?
In order to do that, she must first find a guild willing to accept her, then when that is done, she must seek to become the strongest in the guild. Only then can she say she is ready to find the ones behind her village’s destruction. Only then, will she be ready to face them and take revenge.
But what awaits her on the outside is different from what she had imagined. Looked down upon because of her race and gender, she strives to prove herself a capable warrior, able to stand her ground in battle.
This is only the beginning.

I Do or I Die! RJ Ledesma’s Imaginary Guide to Getting Married and Other Man-made Disasters (As told to him by his Yaya). With chapters that unapologetically reveal how highly-strung husbands-to-be unravel under the pressures of marriage – from planning an epic proposal, staging covert bachelor parties to pamanhikan survival tips – RJ Ledesma’s candor makes even the most familiar ridiculously funny in his book.
Last October, I had the opportunity to attend the launching event for RJ Ledesma‘s new book, I Do or I Die, at the National Bookstore branch in Greenbelt 5. During this event, I was able to meet the author RJ Ledesma, who happened to be a friend of my mom. As the event began and RJ Ledesma introduced his book, it was astonishing to watch how lively and full of life the author was in talking about his married life and married life in general. For someone like me who has yet to experience that kind of thing first-hand, it was a story to behold as I listened to tales about his engagement, to the planning of his wedding, and sometimes even of his married life. An interesting perspective about married life, from the eyes of the other side – namely men.
It made me laugh, smile and wonder what men really thought about their own weddings, and how different it would seem to them as compared to girls like us with fanciful dreams and desires for our own “Happily Every After” weddings. I have yet to read the book, though my mom has purchased the book and had even had it personally signed by RJ Ledesma himself. I can tell, even if I haven’t read it yet, that the book will really be an interesting read.
From the way RJ Ledesma introduced his book and talked of his experiences, I’m sure that I’d enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed attending the launch.
