Make-up has always been somewhat of a frenemy to me – it’s something that I use but haven’t really gotten used to despite the number of years that I’ve been using the darn things. The eyeliner for example, was only something I started getting used to in college; it happened around the time I started getting into cosplay and the maid cafe project we had at one of my college organizations.
My history with make-up, eyeliners in general, have usually been a hit and miss. I always get liquid eyeliners, and some of the ones I get are easy to use, but they end up clumping together after a few weeks of constant use. Others are both easy to use and have a good steady brush tip, but somehow after a few hours on my face, the eyeliners fade or smudge on the upper part of my double eyelid (whoever said having double eyelids was easy?!). I seriously thought I was never going to find that perfect eyeliner for me.
So last month, after using up my last liquid eyeliner and finding myself without one and heading out of Manila, I found myself at the airport and staring at the MAC shop at NAIA Terminal 3. Now, I usually don’t jump into buying make-up when I’m rushing (like at the airport), but somehow I ended up rush-buying a MAC Eyeliner – which I didn’t even really test out on myself. I can almost hear make-up enthusiasts laughing at this statement of buying make-up without first trying it out.
Having never really tried MAC make-up before (yes, you read that right! I was a MAC virgin!!), I decided to take a chance on the MAC eyeliner because I knew that it was a good brand. And let’s face it, I was desperate.
Weeks later, I can honestly say that I am very much satisfied and happy with my purchase. Actually, it took me about 3-4 tries within the first 1-2 weeks of buying it to really know that I was happy with the product. The first few times I tried it, I wasn’t sure if the “end effect” of the liner staying put on my face even after a whole day of wear and tear was really real. I wanted to make sure that it was legit not smudging or smearing.
Like today for example, I’ve had this on for about 11 hours now, and it still looks okay!

I’m so happy with the eyeliner that I try to use it everyday (or every other day) if possible, even if there’s really no occassion to wear it. Previously, I would only put on my eyeliner if I had an event to attend (like a wedding, or party), or if I was cosplaying or dressing up, of if I had to look professional at work. I wouldn’t wear it all the time because I would get annoyed at people having to point out how the eyeliner would smudge on my upper eyelid, or how I would accidentally rub it off when I would touch my eye.
I even made a video to test out how well it doesn’t smudge, even after only a few seconds of putting it on.
I’m no make-up expert or beauty blogger, but as one of the millions of women who have probably had a hit-and-miss moment with certain make-up brands or just make-up in general, finding that one (or maybe a few ones) that really work well with your routine and your skin, feels awfully like a god-send.
From now on, this Mac Penultimate Eye Liner is definitely topping my list of to-buy make-up pieces.
