A few weeks ago, CoCo Fresh Tea and Juice Philippines launched their Summer 2015 event – Summer On The Go. Despite there being a number of other milk tea places around Metro Manila, going to CoCo Tea was a little bit nostalgic because they had a branch at the mall across from Xiamen University’s West Gate, and as I lived around that area while as a student, CoCo Tea was something that I saw quite often. In fact, people with student identifications got a discount of 1rmb (about Php7.50) for drinks.
CoCo Tea Philippines opened its first branch in Manila in late-2013, at Eastwood. This Taiwanese brand, which has since become a global name, first opened in 1997 in Dansui. Now, the Philippine branches are among the 2000+ branches open around the world. The brand continues to source its ingredients – fruits and teas, from both local and international sources. It maintains its routine of using only the best materials in creating their drinks.
Despite being Chinese, I’ve never really been much of a tea person, and I indeed like my drinks with quite the amount of sugar. The great thing about CoCo’s selection of drinks though is that it offers both fruit drinks, milk teas, and tea drinks, each with the brand’s original drinks but also drinks that understand the Philippine market and tastes.
This summer, CoCo Tea launched Summer On The Go, which talked about how summer in the Philippines expresses a lot of freedom, energy, and vibrancy. That feeling that summer brings, how a hot day can feel amazing with cool treats and drinks, or how the summer heat can be beaten with amazing activities and outings that get you refreshed and feeling happy, it’s something that doesn’t need to exist only during the summer season.
“We want everyone to know that every day can be as exciting, fun, and free, as the summer season. That feeling you get when summer comes, that feeling does not necessarily have to end. With CoCo Tea’s drinks, we want our customers to enjoy summer goodness whenever they want to.” – Larry Evans Tan, General Manager for CoCo Tea Philippines
CoCo Tea invited their four influencers – volleyball player and host Gretchen Ho, fashion blogger Laureen Uy, model and host LA Aguinaldo, and DLSU Green Archers basketball player Jeron Teng, each with their own very busy and hectic on-the-go lifestyles. These four shared their favorite CoCo drinks and how they accompany their on-the-go and busy lifestyle with their favorite CoCo drinks.

The event was hosted by Philippine Volcanoes player Chris Everingham
Each influencer had their own favorite drink. Gretchen’s was the Lemon Calamansi with Aloe, Passion Fruit Tea Burst was Laureen’s, the Lemon Drunk is of course Jeron’s, while LA Aguinaldo likes his CoCo 3 Buddies. Me, I like fruit teas and all, but I seem to always crave for milk teas that taste like something coffee or chocolate-like, topped with some very yummy egg pudding.

Chocolate Milk Tea with Pearl and Pudding (but without the pearl!)
Overall, the event was quite enjoyable, if not nostalgic. Plus you really get the summer vibe with the way the place was decorated, and how there were so many people despite the place not being that big. Just imagining it, it’s probably like summer at Boracay or some other famous beach place, all crowded with people laughing and having fun.
It was also nice bumping into Gretchen again, as she was a schoolmate (both high school and college) of mine, but from a younger batch. And apparently Jeron is batchmates with my youngest brother so it was great bonding with the two of them over common friends and our common community.
If this is how summer starts, I can’t wait to experience the rest of this summer goodness, but maybe with not so much of the heat. 🙂
