A few days ago, I joined my mom in attending a WeChat event – as they upgrade to version 5.1, which makes games available on the English language version of the app. I’ve been using the Chinese language version of WeChat – called 微信 (WeiXin), since mid-June 2012, so I hadn’t been aware that games were already available on the English version. A couple of months ago, games were only available with the Chinese language, but now it’s nice to know that games are still available if I decide to switch to English.
These games allow the users to log in using their WeChat accouns, and allows users to compete with their friends for the higher scores. As WeChat increasingly becomes a top app in the smartphone industry, more and more users will opt to download social apps that have it all – and WeChat is the leading one.
For the English language, these are the 3 games now famously available:
1. Gunz Dash, that looks familiar to Super Mario. Your character automatically goes on a run as you dash to collect coins, dodge obstacles, and avoid bombs, while jumping over holes and cliffs. The aim of the game is to collect as much coins, and to go as far as you can, as points are measured by both distance and coins.
Use coins to level up your character, buy pets, and buy other characters. And dash your way to victory.
2. 2 Day’s Match, is something like a mahjong-matching game. Originally, I thought this game was all about matching tiles, but as I was watching the game being publicly played during the event, I noticed that there’s an air of mahjong to it and you can’t match tiles that are not free.
The aim of the game is to match as many tiles as you can within a time limit. Certain tiles produce bonuses and you can use those bonuses to help you earn more points and match together more tiles.
3. Craz3 Match, is a game that might look familiar to a lot of people as it’s familiar to popular games like Bejeweled Blitz. Match three animals or more to get points and get combos. Earn or buy bonuses to help you earn more points.
Match consecutive animals quickly to earn more combo points and bonuses that will allow you to destroy more animals at one go than you usually do.
Other updates to Version 5.1:
Expand your Chat. WeChat 5.1 now allows up to 100 users to be in a group conference.
StoryCam. I haven’t tried this yet, which is a separate app to be downloaded. According to the press release, you can use your own words to describe the “what”, “where” and “when” of photos. With festival watermarks, filters and real-time location based information, you can now personalize and share any moment.

Platform Optimization. WeChat is better optimized for both android and ios platforms.
