Review on: Because You’re Mine by Lisa Kleypas
Series: Captial Theatre (Book 2)
Rating: 3.5/5
Lady Madeline Matthews is a well-bred lady whose family expects her to marry a much older society Lord who thinks of her as an ornament to be paraded on his arm. She could just marry him, or she can have the freedom she’s always wanted and ‘ruin’ herself enough so she won’t have to marry her fiancée. She does just this and decides that if she’ll give her virginity to someone, why not give herself to one of London’s most well-known lovers, Logan Scott.
Logan Scott runs his own theatre company, a man who is more serious about his theatre and money other than anything else. He’s serious, strict, and is not serious about love. It’s at his theatre that he meets Madeline who offers herself up to him, without of course revealing her ton background. She gets hired to help out at the theatre company, and it is here that Logan begins to discover his budding feelings for Madeline.
Later on, Logan has to decide if he’s willing to give up his guarded past and mysterious present in order to protect and hold close Madeline.
An interesting story, though I think it to be a bit modern as it reflects a rebellious daughter’s priority of her freedom over society’s culture. The main character, Madeline, is shown as head strong, independent, and willing to take responsibility over her actions. Logan on the other hand is the devastatingly mysterious bachelor with a shady past who is stubborn and refuses to give in to his emotions. Very typical of romance novels.
Kleypas injects other characters into the story that make for a unique environment within the story. Also, with very few stories (that I’ve read) that include and sometimes revolve around the theatre stage, readers will definitely learn a bit more about the world in which these characters live in. Definitely an eye-opener into a different perspective of the regency era.
Also, one thing I found interesting in the story is how some relationships among the characters just coincidentally fitted together into a dramatic puzzle. It’s definitely not something you’d expect in the story.
As all romance novels go, it’s just drama piled over drama, piled over drama. There are a lot of things you’d expect to happen in the story, and many other things that come out unexpectedly. Klepyas is a notable romance novel writer so her works always come out well and are always a source of intrigue and entertainment for whomever reads her works.
